Board-certified clinical social workers are recognized by the credentials they hold: the advanced-generalist BCD and specialty credentials in Practice with Children & Their Families and in Psychoanalysis. They can be found, with many details of their practice and background, in the OnLine BCD Directory, a free searchable-sortable Internet service.

BCD clinicians hold an advanced national certification based on the highest standards of clinical practice in the profession. All BCD-holders affirm annually, through an audited process, that they meet quality standards for continuing education, and currency of clinical practice and state licensure in good standing. This process of annual recertification is unique to the BCD certification, and assures that the certificant is an active clinician voluntarily compliant with the highest standards.

For healthcare delivery systems seeking a true measure of advanced competency, the BCD is the gold standard. In the U.S. uniformed services, the BCD is a criterion for up to $5,000 in bonus pay. Some insurance systems strengthen their practitioner panels by extending preferred status to BCD clinicians, all of them easily accessible through the Online BCD Directory.
